On March 12, 2020, Moscow Region State University hosted a regular meeting of the all-Russian scientific and methodological seminar “Advanced ideas in teaching mathematics in Russia and abroad” (scientific Director — doctor of pedagogical Sciences, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, academician of the International Academy of Sciences of pedagogical education Tatyana I. Kuznetsova, Secretary — Daria A. Zabotina).

There was heard a report on the following theme “Ensuring the implementation of specialized mathematics education in the conditions of the Federal state educational system of secondary General education “. The authors of the report were: Oleg V. Kuzmin (Irkutsk State University), head of the Department of probability theory and discrete mathematics, PhD, Professor, honored teacher of the Russian Federation; Elena Y. Kuzmina (Lyceum of Irkutsk State University), Director, teacher of mathematics, PhD, associate Professor, honored worker of education of the Irkutsk region. There speakers were: O. V. Kuzmin and the head of the seminar T. I. Kuznetsova
As the speakers emphasized, the content of education is a model of the social order, i.e. a set of society’s requirements for what a person should know and be able to do, and what qualities this person should possess. Education has a socio-historical character, since it is determined by the goals and objectives at a particular stage of development of society, traditions and strategy of the state in the field of education. Its goals and values change under the influence of complex socio-economic processes in modern society (the requirements of life, the level of economic and technical development of the country, scientific knowledge, the level of development of philosophy, art, science, morality, law, politics, attitude to religion).
Modern digital technologies set a global challenge and define a situation where everyone can become a participant or initiator of any event of planetary significance. Today’s young people are growing up with the understanding that individuals need to find their place not only on the scale of their country, but also through the perception of themselves as a unit of a highly competitive macro-economic space of the world. Currently, the need to solve the problems of “digitalization” of all spheres of human activity requires the school to change approaches to teaching mathematics and computer science, to the selection of their content, strengthens the role of the discrete mathematics section in the mathematical education of students, actualizes the transition from teaching the subject “Technology” based on outdated methods to information technology and robotics. All the changes demand for the quality of education requires modern schools to modernize education, the main element of which is updating of its content at all levels.
During the seminar, there were formulated questions that need to be resolved in the formation of the content of educational programs:
-is it possible to give the same content (basic and accelerated learning) when teaching a subject for different periods of time?
-is it possible for the same time to give different content in volume and depth?
The principal position of the ISU Lyceum is to understand that everyone should be taught equally well, but the amount of knowledge in each of the subjects should differ. The Lyceum implements the following ways leading to the solution of this issue: development of programs of educational subjects, electives and extracurricular activities with different levels of content; individual and distance learning programs. The requirements for students to master the main educational programs should be closely related to the conditions for organizing educational activities. The Lyceum has created and successfully implemented a system of programs for advanced training in discrete mathematics and computer science within the framework of basic and extracurricular education.
The curriculum includes end-to-end author’s training courses:
“Development of combinatorial-logical thinking” for 5-7 grades;
“Discrete mathematics” for 8-11grades;
“Engineering graphics ” for 5-7 grades.
“Fundamentals of robotics” for 5-11 grades (is an extracurricular author’s educational program course)
At the Lyceum in mathematics classes non-standard thinking people are brought up. Thanks to it they will be able to implement their ideas in the future. At the same time, there are no losers, even if at some point the child goes to some other profile direction, then he will learn to work in a team, think, find the necessary information, and be able to appreciate a specialist in each member of the team. Such interaction has a positive impact not only on the learning outcomes of children, but also on improving the professional skills of the teaching staff. Experience shows that the ability to organize joint activities with a teacher and peers is closely related to the ability to cooperate with others on the basis of a positive communication model, that is, on the basis of mutual understanding, patience and respect.
The discussion of the report was attended by: V. A. Vasilieva, T. I. Kuznetsova, M. S. Milshtein, M. A. Petrova. At the end of the meeting, the head of the seminar, T. I. Kuznetsova granted O. V. Kuzmin with certificates for the active participation of O. V. Kuzmin and E. Y. Kuzmina in the seminar of the 2018/2019 academic year.
During the meeting, there was an online broadcast with more than 20 participants. The next session of the workshop will be held on April 9, 2020.
